Jennifer Hessmer Certified Personal Trainer

pre/post natal exercise

Are you pregnant, thinking about getting pregnant or maybe just had a baby?

Then we need to get started. Let's begin with a written medical clearance from your doctor. Please have your doctor outline any specific guidelines concerning any exercises/activities that we should be avoiding. In addition, please fill out the health/exercise history form by clicking the link at the bottom of this page.

Jennifer will create a program that meets all American Council of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommendations. She will tailor a workout program that is specific to your previous activity level, the duration of your pregnancy (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th trimester) and your energy level for any given day. Continued research supports exercise during pregnancy as beneficial to the fetus, the newborn baby and the mom during pregnancy, delivery and post-delivery. Jennifer will plan, implement and evaluate a fitness program incorporating the physiological, anatomical, hormonal, musculoskeletal, and cardiovascular changes a pregnant woman will experience.

Using the Tupler Method, you will learn how to engage your transverse muscle throughout your pregnancy to minimize a diastisis of your rectus abdominal muscle and minimize lower back pain. If you would like more information on the Tupler Method, or purchase some of her products, please visit www.maternalfitness.com.

If you have had your baby, but still have the "Mummy Tummy", Jennifer will have you focus on exercises to strengthen these muscles and engage them during every exercise you do with her. In addition, if you have extra weight to lose or want to fit back into your pre-pregnancy clothes, Jennifer will tailor a cardio workout to help you burn off the extra pounds and a strength training program to tone your body back to its pre-pregnancy shape. In addition, she will give you exercises to do all day long, everyday to get you back in bikini/bathing suit shape and give you the energy to keep up with your growing, active children.
